What Oil Should I Use?

There has been an ongoing debate on which type of oil is better for your vehicle: conventional or synthetic. We at T&T Automotive Service get this question a lot. We know you want the best for your vehicle, but is synthetic really the best choice? There are a lot of factors that come into play but honestly, conventional is the most economical and reliable.

What Are The Different Oils?

There are a few types of oil: synthetic, conventional or a blend of both of these types. The conventional one, has been refined after it comes from the ground. The synthetic type has been manufactured and has pertinent additives. A blend, means there is a combo of both.

What Are Synthetic Advantages?

The synthetic blend typically performs better in extreme hot temperatures. With that being said, synthetic oil does provide exceptional lubrication to your engine. Since it is synthetic, it is man made and doesn’t become sludge like conventional can. This will help your engine longevity and your fuel economy

Lastly, synthetic oil does not need to be changed as much as conventional oil does, but there is an exception that we will discuss below. Most synthetic oil changes are between 7,500 and 10,000 miles.

So, What Is The Exception?

In the long run, what is the benefit for one over the other? Well, to put in simple terms, cost. You are going to pay double for synthetic than conventional. If you do all the math though, you will see that you will get more mileage out of the synthetic oil change than a conventional one.

However, changing the conventional oil more often and consistently, it will nearly perform the same. The conventional oil will need a quicker change than synthetic though.

So, Which Oil Should I Go With?

If you are in a newer vehicle, you will want to stick with what the manufacturer recommends, which is typically synthetic. If you have an older car, you can save some money and stick with the organic approach of conventional oil. At the end of the day, it is what the manufacturer wants you to do.
